Sherry Royster is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Board Approved Supervisor in the state of Maryland who has over 16 years of licensed experience working with adults, adolescents, couples and families in a variety of settings. Sherry utilizes solution-focused treatment approaches based in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) orientations to increase ability to manage symptoms, increasing quality of life and achieving personal change. These approaches develop self-efficacy (can-do attitude and confidence) and internal motivation for change and can produce observable progress. Change is NOT always easy but it is NOT impossible.
Sherry believes that one of the main ingredients in the change process is the trust placed in the relationship between counselor and client. Clients have to feel safe enough to become vulnerable to explore hurt and pain, allowing themselves to speak very private thoughts. To become open and vulnerable requires trust that the counselor knows what they are doing to protect them from further harm, will support them through difficulty and will guide them to a place of greater growth. Sherry is looking forward to building trust with you to assist you in your journey towards change and healing.
