### Licensed Professional Counselor

Hello! I’m Susan Tangires and I am licensed as a professional counselor in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia. I provide [therapy](https://www.columbiapsychiatry-dc.com/psychiatric-care/mental-health-counseling-and-therapy/) services at our [Glen Burnie, MD](https://www.columbiapsychiatry-dc.com/wp-content/uploads/wp-mfa-exports/location/glen-burnie-md.md) clinic.

I have more than 25 years of experience working in all levels of outpatient care for a variety of mental health concerns. These include depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, trauma, substance use problems, eating disorders, ADHD, life transitions, relationship issues, and stress management. I work with adults (18+). I have a passion for working with service members and veterans, first responders, adults navigating hormonal issues in mid-life, and adults diagnosed with ADHD.

I take a person-centered approach, and use motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral techniques. I also teach clients more effective ways to meet their needs. I recognize that emotional health involves body, mind and spirit. In the event that a client may benefit from medication, I work closely with prescribers at our practice and in the community.

I believe that the foundation for successful therapy is the relationship between the therapist and client. I am a compassionate and caring listener and want to understand my clients’ concerns and priorities. My intention is to walk with you on a journey of growth in mindful awareness and ways of coping that are more helpful than what you have tried before.
