Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
I am a provider at our Bowie clinic who provides psychiatric services!
As a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, my ideal client is someone who has mental health needs, for example, someone dealing with depression or a mood disorder who needs compassionate, evidence-based support tailored to their unique situation. Presentation can be persistent low mood, hopelessness, fatigue, and changes in sleep or appetite. These struggles can make it hard to function in day-to-day activities like work and school, and even relationships may be affected. Many also feel isolated or misunderstood due to the stigma around mental health, which can worsen their challenges or exacerbate their symptoms. Access to care often adds to these challenges. Unfortunately, not everyone has equal access to mental health care, thus leading to poorer mental health outcomes. My ideal client’s goal is to reach an optimal mental health state where they will be able to function. This also included identifying the cause and creating tailored individual goals to achieve the utmost result.
As a specialist, my goal is to assess, diagnose and medically manage patient’s mental health challenges using evidence based practice and being compassionate. I also prioritize long team management which includes reassessment of plan of care and making adjustments where needed. I can offer a comprehensive approach grounded in evidence-based care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a deep commitment to incorporating holistic approaches. I utilize proven interventions for a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and psychosis. I incorporate therapy and medication management to customize treatment approach for each of my patient’s. I stay up-to-date on the latest research and clinical guidelines, whether it’s implementing psychotherapy, mindfulness strategies, or a combination. All treatment plans will be based on what aligns with the patient’s preferences and what evidence has shown is effective. Incorporating an interdisciplinary approach to provide holistic support. By working together and communicating openly this ensures nothing gets overlooked.
Beyond my clinical approach, I want my patients to know I am deeply committed to empowering my community through patient care. I am passionate about making quality mental health care accessible to everyone. Moreover, I am an advocate for my community beyond the therapy room. I participate in mental health awareness initiatives to help reduce stigma and push for systemic changes. I firmly believe that knowledge is power when it comes to managing one’s mental health. I make it a point to educate my patients about their conditions and treatment options in clear, relatable terms. By demystifying mental health conditions and explaining the “why” behind recommendations, I help patients become informed partners in their care. I encourage questions and open dialogue to formulate an individualized care plan. Ultimately, my patients should feel they are gaining tools and understanding that will continue serving them long after our sessions end. My hope is that through our work, each person feels more in control of their mental health. In summary, I want my patients to know I am all in. I bring a wealth of expertise while remaining a lifelong learner and a voice for positive change in the mental health space. My mission is to provide empathetic and holistic care and to empower each person I work with to lead a healthier, more fulfilling life.
