Judith Slowey-Brown, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

I am a clinician at our Aldie clinic who provides therapy services!

My ideal client is someone from middle school age and older who feels stuck in unhelpful patterns and struggles to connect with the world around them. They may avoid challenges, repeat self-sabotaging behaviors, or feel trapped in negative narratives. Often, they find it difficult to express their emotions, whether due to a limited emotional vocabulary or a lack of awareness of the physical and emotional sensations they are experiencing.

These clients might shut down or react emotionally in ways that lead to rejection by others—whether through anger, passivity, or other responses that hinder their needs from being met in relationships. Many have a history of attachment issues, single-event trauma, or complex trauma, and they may feel confused or lack clarity about what’s truly happening within them. My goal is to help them untangle these challenges, develop self-awareness, and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

I can help by developing a strong therapeutic relationship with you. Together, we will explore your past, present, and desired future states. I will assist you in expanding your emotional vocabulary, understanding the nature of your feelings, and recognizing how they are impacting your life. We will work to uncover your thoughts, including your inner critic and self-sabotaging narratives, and identify what triggers your behaviors and emotions.

I will create a safe space where we can use techniques to help you notice, understand, and recognize your various emotional and cognitive states. Through psychoeducation and a carefully structured treatment plan, we will work to ease your internal struggles. I will help you understand the different parts of yourself, the roles they play, and how to work with them, as each part has meaning and purpose. Together, we will identify when these parts are activated and explore how other parts can provide empathy, calm, and self-support.

We will also look into how these patterns began, mapping out traumatic memories and understanding their impact. Using the 8-phase EMDR protocol, we will work on reprocessing these memories and developing future templates for more adaptive responses. I will provide ongoing support, including check-ins between sessions during reprocessing, to ensure you feel supported throughout the process.

We will continuously evaluate progress and goal achievement to ensure the treatment is effective. Finally, we will agree upon a thoughtful termination process when our work together has reached its completion.

I have happily adopted the US as my home. I grew up in the UK and moved to America twenty-five years ago. I have worked in corporations in the UK and US and now in the public school system. I love to run/walk, depending on the day, with our dog, Ziggy. I also enjoy traveling and practicing yoga. I am an avid theater and film buff, will devour any book, whilst gardening and baking restores my soul.
