Abigail Janney, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

I am a clinician at our Aldie clinic who provides therapy services!

I am passionate about counseling children, teenagers, and young adults with various mental health complaints. I strive to help my clients understand and attend to their emotional experiences in healthy ways by encouraging skill-building and goal setting. I offer a supportive environment where clients are encouraged to explore their feelings, thoughts, behaviors, identities, and relationships to increase their self-awareness and healthy habits for an improved sense of well-being. I help my clients remain resilient amidst times of stress and adversity by helping them cultivate emotional literacy, distress management techniques, and meaningful relationships. I help clients who struggle with managing their emotional reactions and harmful behaviors to collaborate on setting realistic and personalized goals for improved mental health outcomes.

With a Master of Science degree in mental health counseling, I treat a wide variety of mental health complaints including anxious and depressive disorders, compulsions, attention deficits, life transitions, women’s issues, grief, trauma, relationship issues, and gender identity concerns. As a professional counselor, I recognize the uniqueness of every individual and utilize a person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach to best meet the individual needs of my clients. I have an eclectic theoretical orientation and draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Expressive arts therapies, mindfulness, and play therapy techniques, ensuring my use of theory aligns with every client’s unique needs. I encourage collaboration during my sessions and empower my clients to take a hands-on role in reaching their treatment goals by offering compatible intervention options, prioritizing skill building, and regularly seeking client insight on the counseling process and adjusting accordingly. I prioritize offering developmentally appropriate interventions for children and helping young clients adopt healthy habits and coping skills for life-long mental wellness and resilience.

My goal is to offer all of my clients a safe environment of non-judgment where they feel comfortable exploring the uncomfortable. I recognize the strength and vulnerability it takes to seek mental health assistance and prioritize empowering my clients with encouragement, unconditional positive regard, and empathetic understanding.
