Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor
I am a clinician at our Silver Spring clinic who provides therapy services!
Ideal client:
• A person who recognizes that there are things in her life that she needs to change because she struggles in her personal, professional and social life.
• Main issues: she feels down about 90% of the time, she has difficulty prioritizing her tasks, and very often leaves projects at work incomplete. She is afraid that sooner or later, her issues are going to have huge negative consequences, the one she fears the most is to be fired.
• One of her main needs is to talk to her primary care doctor because she worries that she might have a serious health problem. She also wants to talk to a therapist to help her have a better understanding of her destructive behavioral patterns.
• Her goals: 1) learn practical skills to prioritize her activities; 2) learn to set clear boundaries; and 3) find a support group of people who are experiencing similar situations.
• This client wants to be in therapy for no more than 6 months and find a therapist who she could connect with personally and emotionally. She needs a brief therapy approach because she is afraid that she wouldn’t follow through with a long-term commitment. She also acknowledges that the relationships with her social circle are very superficial. She doesn’t know how to cultivate meaningful connections.
My areas of expertise are psychodynamic and existentialist. Relational problems are core issues of people in need of therapy. Also, most of the psychological problems are related to fears and anxieties regarding life’s unpredictability, need for acceptance and belonging, and fear of death.
I would like my clients to know that therapy is not a solo journey. Client and therapist are together in the client’s search for wellbeing.
• Therapy helps build wellbeing skills and an understanding of interconnectedness of thoughts, feelings, behaviors, reactions of others, consequences of actions, and effects of the external environment on the person.
• Therapy requires internal work that can lead to a more balanced and satisfying life.
• Wellbeing is reachable. It is a process that requires daily attention.
