Althea Miller-Umar, NP

Althea Miller-Umar is a Nurse Practioner at our Arlington clinic who provides psychiatry services in-person and via telehealth. Caring, compassionate, and professional are three words that would describe Althea Miller-Umar. She has been working in mental health for almost eight years. She began her career as a mental health counselor before becoming a psychiatric nurse and later a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Althea graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore with a doctorate in nursing practice in psychiatry. She also has a Master of Arts in counseling from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. She prides herself on her ability to create a safe, comfortable space for clients to express their concerns. She believes that the provider and client must take a collaborative approach to treatment and is committed to working as a team to help her clients achieve mental and emotional wellness. Her areas of expertise include adults (ages 18-65), members of the LGBTQIA+ community, military service members and their families, as well as those dealing with life transitions, loss and grief, history of substance use disorders, and/or trauma. She also has experience providing psychiatric services to children and adolescents. Above all, she wants her prospective clients to know that there is always hope and change is possible.
